More than half of Stockport is made up of countryside, and with places of interest like Buxton and the Peak District very close by, visitors will be spoilt for walks and scenery in this lovely part of the country. One of Stockport's landmarks is the 1840's Viaduct with its 27 Brick Arches. It is the passageway for all mainline trains to Birmingham and London, and it is featured in most of Lowry's paintings.
